Homeland Protection
The Homeland Protection mission is developing technology and systems to prevent terrorist attacks within the U.S., to reduce the vulnerability of the U.S. to terrorism, and to minimize the damage and assist in the recovery from terrorist attacks. Current sponsors include the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, and other federal, state, and local entities. Efforts include architecture studies for the defense of civilians and facilities against potential biological attacks, development of the Enhanced Regional Situation Awareness system for the air defense of the National Capital Region, development of cyber-security technology for critical infrastructure protection, and development of collision-avoidance technology to enable the use of unmanned air vehicles in support of homeland protection.
