Lincoln Laboratory Veterans' Network (LLVETS)

LLVETS MembersThe Lincoln Laboratory Veterans' Network (LLVETS) is a community to support, develop and promote the unique characteristics and needs of military veterans at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. With over 300 armed forces veterans currently working at Lincoln Laboratory, representing all of the Services, the LLVETS community is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all veterans and supporters.

LLVETS supports Lincoln Laboratory Veterans by

  • Identifying and recognizing employees that are U.S. veterans
  • Supporting veterans transitioning from the military to the Laboratory
  • Reaching out to local active duty troops and veterans
  • Creating a network that informs its members of activities and legislation affecting veterans
  • Providing information about veterans benefits organizations and troop support opportunities

LLVETS presentationLLVETS welcomes all members of the Laboratory community to its events. Each year, the LLVETS community hosts and participates in a number of seminars, fundraisers, veteran appreciation events, and community outreach opportunities. Since 2006,  LLVETS and the Laboratory’s Support Our Troops initiative have sent over 2000 care packages to troops overseas. Each year LLVETs and other employees participate in the AFA Veterans Fun Run, this past year including 40 runners and walkers contributing about $1200 throughout the event. All of the proceeds go to deployed military members and their families from the local community.

In 2013, LLVETS hosted a presentation from NEADS (Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans) and organized a 2-day bake sale as a fundraiser. Donations from the Laboratory community provided enough funding to sponsor the training of a dog for NEADS’ Canines for Combat Veterans program. The dog is a Labrador, appropriately named Lincoln.

Each November, the Laboratory sponsors a Veterans' Appreciation Luncheon held at Hanscom Air Force Base, and attended by 200 Laboratory veterans.

Veterans Appreciation Lunch 2015 In 2015, Lieutenant General Rex C. McMillian, Commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve and Marine Forces Northern Command, served as keynote for the luncheon. Past speakers have included Admiral Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations, and General Mark A. Welsh III, Chief of Staff U.S. Air Force.

LLVETS is one of several employee resource groups at Lincoln Laboratory
